Soft Sided Canopy Home Build 2022-Feb

So built a lift off canopy for camping that works great for a base camp setup but I would not be 4 wheeling with it on due to it’s weight and center mass is high.

So decided to make a frame with aluminum roof to allow a solar panel and awning, and canvas sides for a minimal light weight camping.

Simple square with bracing as below each corner has gussets and using 20mm x 20mm steel tube with angel on 4 sides on the bottom which can then lock into the tray for my ute.

So the steel for the frame with cutting came in at $125.00

Started making the 3 verticals welded to the top runner and put them out

Now to add a roof and front

Now add a 270 degree awning, ensuit awning and a table

Made new brackets for the 270 awning so it sits over the canopy now (was sticking out past my mirrors before.

5 x 1 meter Hard Korr dual colour led light strips on the bottom of the surround with a controller per side and a central switch lights up the canopy inside and out nicely.

160W solar pannel feeds in for the battery box to keep it topped up.

Installed 2 power boxes, one at the front (circuit breakers, cig socket, USB sockets, dual Andreson plugs, power in lead) and one at the back (cig socket, switch for lights, Andreson plug).

Stove on a fold down board at the back.

Added to the Ute a 80 liter under tray water tank.

So we are almost ready to go now 🙂
